Privacy Policy
Last updated:
This policy explains what information is collected when you visit this website, how it is used and what choices you have. We keep data collection to a minimum. By using the site you agree to this policy.
1. Information we collect
Server logs. Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, processes standard technical data to deliver the site and keep it secure, such as your IP address, browser type, device type, pages requested and the time of the request. We do not use this to identify you personally.
Information you send us. If you email us, we receive your email address and the contents of your message. We use them only to reply and to improve the site.
We do not ask you to create an account, and we do not run a sign-up form or a comment system.
2. Local storage on your device
Our games save data in your browser's localStorage. This includes your current puzzle, your game statistics (rounds played, average steps and streak), your difficulty setting and the list of words you removed in the solver, and the daily start word looked up for the hint page. This data stays on your device and is not sent to our servers. You can delete it at any time by clearing your browser data for this site.
3. Cookies
The site itself does not set cookies for tracking. Cookies may be set by third-party services described below, if and when they are enabled on the site.
4. Advertising (Google AdSense)
We may show advertising provided by Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your visits to this and other websites. This can include personalised advertising. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and other sites on the internet.
You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, or learn about other options at aboutads.info. You can learn more about how Google uses data at How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services. Where required by law, such as in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, we will ask for your consent before personalised ads or non-essential cookies are used.
5. Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how many people visit the site and which pages are useful. These tools may use cookies to collect information such as pages viewed, approximate location and device type. The data is aggregated and not used to identify individuals. Analytics will only be active if it is described here and, where required, after you consent.
6. Embedded videos (YouTube)
The home page lists short videos. Until you click a video, no YouTube code is loaded and no data is sent to YouTube. When you press play, a video from the privacy-enhanced mode of YouTube (youtube-nocookie.com) is loaded. YouTube may then collect information according to Google's Privacy Policy.
7. Third-party links and the daily hint page
On the Poople Hint page, your browser contacts the public Poople website (poople.io) once a day to read the daily start word. That request comes directly from your device to that site, so Poople may see your IP address and browser details, as with any website visit. The result is kept in your browser's localStorage and is not sent to us.
This site links to other websites, including the official Poople game. We do not control their content or privacy practices, and we encourage you to read their policies.
8. Children's privacy
This site is a general-audience word game and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights over your personal data, including under the GDPR (European Economic Area and United Kingdom) and the CCPA/CPRA (California). These can include the right to access, correct or delete your data, to object to or restrict processing, to withdraw consent and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell personal information. To exercise a right, email us using the details below. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.
10. Data retention and security
We keep emails only as long as needed to answer them. Technical logs are kept by our hosting provider for a limited time according to its own policy. We use HTTPS across the site and rely on reputable providers, but no method of transmission over the internet is completely secure.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of the page shows when it was last changed. Please check back occasionally.
